Andrea Foster Talks Fashion Meets Travel

While preparing for Travelle's soft launch, I'm excited to have spent time with Andrea Foster - Stylist, Fashion Consultant,  and avid traveler. Her extensive experience in the fashion industry as a star buyer at Bergdorf Goodman and valued team member at Gucci Group, Chloé, and Costume National in New York and LA, makes Andrea a fantastic guest contributor to upcoming features.

We can’t wait to share what we have in store for you! In the meantime, let’s hear Andrea's thoughts on traveling in style.

How do you think about style in the context of travel?

Designers are increasingly thinking about the "global woman" who extensively travels for business and pleasure and factor her unique needs into their collections. From selecting light fabrics that travel well and don't wrinkle, universal styles that translate across geographies and cultures, to pieces that one can wear morning to evening and everything in between.

How do you put together outfits that you travel in?

I like to be comfortable but not sacrifice style. This applies to luggage as much as clothing. I treat my Rimowa suitcase and travel bag for the season as extended pieces of my outfits. I believe in "casual luxury" which is expressive of ones own style, but also practical for the woman of today. I make sure my shoes are light and easy to slip off. I’m obsessed with NewbarK slippers and I'm sure to bring plenty of layers.

What accessories are your must haves in your carry-on?

I bring my own travel pillow from Muji, a lavender scented eyemask and fluffy cashmere socks that make me feel pampered on the flight. Even though it's not always easy to store on the plane, I insist on bringing my Saint Laurent hat whenever I travel. I wouldn't feel like myself without it!

What will you be wearing on your next flight?

My signature travel outfit is a pair of leather leggings that are soft and stylish enough for any destination. Saint Laurent would be my top pick. I throw on a nice oversized cashmere sweater layered over a The Row Stilton T-Shirt. These days I’m loving the Buckle-Strap Ankle Boots from Gianvito Rossi with a low heel that is functional yet looks great. I'm also obsessing over the Saint Laurent boho print and Metallic "Baby Cat" Scarf this season to complete the look - it's on my must have list for Spring!
